An emerging talent to the world of new and improvised music, Brooklyn-based trumpeter and composer Stephanie Richards has performed as soloist from the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to MTV hip-hop sets with Kanye West and Common. Stephanie’s theatrical tendencies often explore collaborations of sight, sound or movement, as reflected in her most recent collaborations with artists Yoko Ono, David Byrne and St. Vincent with the highly acclaimed Asphalt Orchestra as well as performances with artist Mike Kelly and comedian and actor Denis Leary.
Championing new and improvised music, Stephanie has premiered works across North America and the UK, held residencies at Stanford University, University of San Diego and has performed throughout North America, Mexico, France, Sweden, and the UK. She is winner of the International Trumpet Guild Young Artist Award and appears as an upcoming artist in “Das Trompeter-Taschenbuch”; a compilation of trumpet players of the world published by Schott-publishing house.
Stephanie’s academic credits include the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Eastman School of Music, McGill University and the California Institute of the Arts. While studying at Eastman, she was awarded the coveted Performers Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in addition to her degree. She is continuing faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Academy of Creative Education. Stephanie has been inspired infinitely by magnificent mentors, including:
