NEWs
8/6/2010
We’ve played 2 extremely successful nights at Lincoln Center so far, and only 3 nights left! With rave reviews including the nytimes–http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/06/arts/music/06asphalt.html?ref=arts, and a happy Yoko Ono and David Byrne (with whom we have collaborated with this summer), we’re off to a great start!
Last night we made history with the Paul Taylor Dance Company. It was his 80th birthday and we were honored to perform one of his first pieces “3 Epitaphs”-an odd, junty dance piece using field recordings from the turn of the century. Last night was the very first time the piece was performed with live musicians, and Asphalt was up to the challenge!
If you haven’t seen us yet, this show is worth your time (and the free ticket cost doesn’t hurt either). Our new commissions with David Byrne and Yoko Ono rock (I get to splash around LC pool improvising while the band beckons me “back to land”), as well as I have had the honor to arrange 2 new pieces for AO as well–keep your ears open for “Wild About My Daddy”, and “Ma” by Tom Ze.
